Honestly, I must admit that after completing this course and even while creating these reflections, I am feeling very overwhelmed as to how and when to impart the many strategies and approaches that were learned throughout the course.
The aspect of our teamwork that I enjoyed most was creating our Digital Storybook and class presentations because they enabled us to exercise our creative, technical and teamworking skills.
I recall expressing that this method is one very simple but influencial method of 'writing'... it indicates that writing now involves more than just pen and pencil, just as similarly teaching is more than just 'chalk and talk'.
There are so many strategies and also so many facets of writing.
Our lecturer was very successful in modelling the passion for writing via her methods of excitably imparting the knowledge of the many strategies, encouragement to apply those strategies during our teaching practicum and in our classrooms and also how writing can be used as a source of professional development.
In deciding how to effectively reflect on the influence the course had and will continue to influence me as teacher, I have decided to sum it up and express via an acronym.
W - work along with each student to master and appreciate writing to at least a little above basic level
R - regularly review the writing process and practice it as much as is possible with all the genres of
writing.
I - integrate fun activities and enthusiastic modelling of the passion for writing.
T - take the time to carefully plan lessons and assessments that will benefit my students writing skills
I - involve the use of strategies such as free-writing, peer sharing and writing for the school
newsletter
N - never assume that my students have learned enough about the joys and dynamics of writing
G - give every student a fair and equal opportunity to become aware of and embrace writing at
their own level and with their learning ability.
