Unit 4 - Developing a Writing Philosophy for Teaching

A philosophy... I understand this to mean a personal approach or understanding of how and why I do something.
I reflected a bit on this, because I asked myself, as a teacher, what would be my purpose for teaching writing... what will I want my students to accomplish from my lessons and is their a purpose for teaching and helping my students to appreciate writing?  How can writing help my students?
As a result, I realized that although some students may not gravitate to truly embracing or appreciating writing, that it can be used as a means of self expression (especially for shy students),showing how the student may understand or lack thereof on any given topic (assessment),
recording data, or simply to demonstrate their writing talent.
Therefore, I created a personal writing philosophy
"Teaching Writing is a tool / key to unlocking a given sense of talent and communication that can be used to somehow or someway significantly enhance the learning experience for my students".

Also, I would encourage and assist my students to also create their own personal writing philosophy which may also help them to set goals for their writing and thus create a sense of purpose and accomplishment when they meet these goals... and motivation when they do not.
